PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording medium, the color developing properties and ink absorbency of which are balanced with each other and especially which has semi-gloss even when printing is executed by an ink jet printer with a pigment ink. SOLUTION: An ink receiving layer (a lower layer) having the weight ratio of colloidal silica to dry type silica of 100:0 to 50:50 on a support. An ink receiving layer (an upper layer) having the weight ratio of colloidal silica to vapor phase silica of 50:50 to 0:100 is provided on the ink receiving layer (the lower layer). In addition, the 75 degree specular gloss of the surface of the recording medium is set to be 20 to 50%.
