The present invention relates to a butt submerged arc welding apparatus for pipes, comprising: a main frame; a fixed frame; and a submerged arc welding unit, wherein the submerged arc welding unit includes: an up/down welding frame installed on one side of the main frame to move upward and downward; a left/right welding frame installed to move leftward and rightward from the up/down welding frame; a wire feeder that uniformly feeds a wire from a wire reel around which the wire is wound; a flux feeder that feeds flux accommodated therein through a flux tube; a welding torch that is fixedly installed on the left/right welding frame and fed with the wire from the wire feeder and performs arc-welding on a temporarily welded portion by generating an arc according to the applied power; a flux spray that is fixedly installed in front of the welding torch and connected to the flux tube of the flux feeder to receive the flux, and sprays the flux on the temporarily welded portion that is arc-welded by the welding torch; and a flux receiver that is located in front of the flux spray and receives the flux sprayed from the flux spray such that the flux agglomerates without flowing down toward the lower-front side of the temporarily welded portion.
