PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet end detecting apparatus capable of accurately detecting an end position of a sheet being conveyed such as a recording sheet, the device being easily manufactured thereby reducing manufacturing cost, an image recorder, and a method for detecting the end position of the recording sheet by using the sheet end detecting apparatus. SOLUTION: The sheet end detecting apparatus 40 comprises a conveying roller 27 and an encoder 41. Between the roller 27 and its peripheral surface 27b, a first pressure-electricity converting strip terminal 42 which is strip-shaped and detects a contact with the recording paper P elongates in the direction of the axis core 27a so as to reach inside and outside of a contacting region 23, which is on the periphery surface 27b that contacts with the recording paper P, and also elongates so as to revolve around the axis core 27a. Further, with respect to the first pressure-electricity converting strip terminal 42, the position in the axis core 27a direction at any point in its elongation direction corresponds with the phase around the axis core 27a in one-to-one manner.
