PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the state of a memory when performing route guide, and to determine a memory for reading out map information based on a detection result. SOLUTION: This navigation device 10 for displaying the map information and performing route guide to a destination is equipped with the first storage means constituted of a dismountable external memory 105, the second storage means constituted of an internal memory 104 built in the navigation device 10, a control part 101 for controlling reading/writing of the map information to the first or second storage means, a display part 110 for displaying the map information read out from the first or second storage means, and a memory state detection part 108 for detecting the state of the first storage means. When performing route guide, the control part 101 reads out the map information from the second storage means and displays it, when determined that the map information cannot be read out from the first storage means based on a detection result by the memory state detection part 108.
