The invention relates to a filter (1) comprising a filter housing (2), a housing cover (2') that closes the filter housing (2) during operation and that can be removed from the filter housing (2), an inlet for liquid to be filtered, an outlet (26) for filtered liquid, an exchangeable filter cartridge (4) that separates a raw side (10) and a clean side (11) of the filter (1) from each other, and comprising a filter bypass valve (3) which consists of a valve seat (31) and of a valve body (32) that is guided in a movable manner in relation to the valve seat and that is pre-loaded with a force which acts in a valve-closing direction, wherein the valve seat (31) is arranged in or on the housing cover (2') such that it is fixed to the cover, the valve body (32) is guided in or on the housing cover (2') such that it is fixed to the cover, and wherein a spring (35) which pre-loads the valve body (32) in the valve-closing direction is guided in or on the housing cover (2') such that it is fixed to the cover. The invention also relates to a filter cartridge (4) for the filter (1). The filter (1) according to the invention is characterised in that the filter cartridge (4) has a spring support (45), and in that when the filter cartridge (4) is installed in the filter (1) and when the housing cover (2') is attached to the filter housing (2), the end of the spring (35) facing away from the valve body (32) is supported and pre-stressed by means of the spring support (45).
