The pedestrian collision detector device (2) has a bumper sensor (20) for detecting a pressure applied on a bumper of a vehicle. A speed sensor (21) is provided for detecting the speed of a vehicle with a determination unit (22), which calculates a bulk of an object that collides with the bumper based on the pressure. The pressure is detected by the bumper sensor based on speed, which is detected by the speed sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting a collision of a pedestrian.
