Recently, user demand for super-high quality multimedia has increased, but there are difficulties in producing, encoding, playing back, and transmitting a large amount of ultra-high-definition (UHD) content having high resolution under a current broadcasting environment. Accordingly, technologies for satisfaction of the user demand in various fields, such as a display for supporting UHD images, a terminal for receiving UHD service, a network for accommodating a large amount of data, and the like, are rapidly developing. In embodiments of the present invention, disclosed are a transmission system which encodes an UHD video by using scalable video coding in order to transmit the video, and which transmits the encoded video over heterogeneous networks on a per-layer basis, and a reception system which plays back separately received video streams as a single video. The systems according to the embodiments of the present invention use heterogeneous networks, thereby adaptively supporting a high-definition (HD) video and an UHD video based on a reception environment of a user. An MPEG media transport (MMT)-based broadcasting method for transmitting an UHD video over heterogeneous networks comprises: a step of encoding a video, and dividing the encoded video into first and second layers; a first transmission step of transmitting the first layer over a first network; and a second transmission step of transmitting the second layer over a second network, wherein the second transmission step is performed when a data reception rate over the second network is equal to or higher than a reference value. |
