PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera device that automatically compensates for a flange focal distance error regardless of a type of lens.SOLUTION: A method and camera assembly use a machine vision system. The camera assembly comprises: a support structure for forming a mounting flange that is configured for coupling with any of a plurality of exchangeable electrically controllable adjustable focal length lens assemblies; a two dimensional image sensor supported by the support structure and for forming a two-dimensional sensor plane separated from the mounting flange by flange focal distance; and a processor which is programmed with a flange focal distance error, and which is programmed so that lens control signals is generated by using the flange focal distance error to compensate for the flange focal distance error when a lens is mounted on the mounting flange.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
