A METHOD AND APPARATUS EFFICIENTLY TO SEND MEDIA USING MSRP OVER IP MULTIMEDIA SUBSYSTEM

A method and an apparatus for transmitting media in a communication system are provided to transmit data quickly without delay and minimize a waste of air network resources by improving the overhead of an MSRP(Message Session Relay Protocol) protocol when an IMS(Internet Protocol Multimedia Sub system) provides a session-based messaging service. A method for transmitting media comprises the following steps of: setting the MRC(Media Relay Capacitor) of a corresponding terminal(315~375); and notifying the terminal that the MRC information is set(380~395). A method for setting the MRC comprises the following steps of: receiving plural MSRPs including the MRC information from a calling terminal; comparing MRC information received form a called terminal with the MRC information received from the calling terminal to set the MRC information of the terminal with the minimum value out of the two information; and notifying the calling terminal of the set MRC information.
