The present invention provides a better dependable system with which it is possible to construct a mechanism for continuously accumulating and utilizing cases and knowledge pertaining to the design or operation of a system and to efficiently improve the system. To this end, a design assist device 1 is provided with an acquisition unit 3, a recording unit 4, and an updating unit 5. The acquisition unit 3 acquires design item information and application information associated with a system to be designed from a storage device 7 in which design item information representing the basic configuration of the system and application information associated with the design item are stored. The recording unit 4 acquires, as applied/not applied information, information on whether or not the acquired deign item has been applied to the system to be designed, and updates the application information associated with the design item information on the basis of the applied/not applied information. The updating unit 5 updates the information stored in the storage device 7 by transferring the design item information and the application information to the storage device 7.
