The present invention generally relates to Titanium dioxide derivatives of formula TiO2-[L]-Ag+, functionalized with silver cations by a bifunctional mercapto alkylsilane ligand. The present derivatives are useful e.g. as antimicrobic, antiseptic and/or antiviral agent, in particular in the form of pharmaceutical compositions for topical use.

TiO2-[L]-Ag+  (I) wherein: -[L]- is a bivalent mercapto alkyl silane ligand of general formula: -[Si—R—S]-, wherein R is a bivalent C1-C4 linear or branched alkyl group, optionally substituted; TiO2 represent a titanium dioxide particle linked to the silica atom of the ligand -[L]-; and Ag+ represents silver ions coordinated to the sulphur atom of the bivalent ligand -[L]-.
