PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To print a high-quality image by avoiding image degradation in a region in which a largest dot is formed. SOLUTION: From a gradation value of image data, it is determined for each dot which dot is formed out of several kinds of dots, or whether no dot should be formed, and then the image is printed by forming dots on a printing medium from the determination. At this time, the second largest dot is formed instead of the largest dot when a predetermined condition (for example, when a printing medium where the dots easily ooze is used, when a combination of the printing medium and an ink causes the easy oozing of the dots, or when an operator of the printer sets the effect to the printer) is detected. By this, although the largest dot makes the dot ooze to cause degradation in image quality, the second largest dot is formed instead of the largest dot, so that the image is printed without causing the degradation of the image quality.
