The device (100) has a receiver (110) for receiving a transmission signal, and a detector (120) for examining a set of used transmission channels from the transmission signal. A calculation unit (130) calculates the used transmission capacity based on a result of the examination. The detector is designed to examine the usage of the used transmission channels independent of transmitted date in the transmission channels. The receiver exhibits a directional coupler or a power divider coupled in a transmission path of a base station transceiver. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for determining used transmission capacity of a base station transceiver for transmitting a transmission signal (2) a computer program with a program code for executing a method for determining used transmission capacity of a base station transceiver for transmitting a transmission signal.
