1. A method for mapping somatosensory and motor cortical regions of a brain of a subject who is undergoing electrocorticoencephalographic (ECoG) recording, the method comprising:
providing an apparatus comprising a computing device, a stimulation pad interconnected to said computing device, and a neural interface processor interconnected to said computing device; implanting an ECoG electrodes array on a surface of the subject's brain; contacting a selected region of the patient's skin with the stimulation pad; producing, with the stimulation pad during a first period of time, stimulation of said selected region; recording with said neural interface processor during the first period of time, a plurality of cortical signals originating in said subject's brain; based upon said plurality of cortical signals, mapping eloquent cortical regions of the subject's brain; and overlaying an image of said ECoG electrode array onto a 3-D mapping of the subject's brain to produce a composite image, said the 3-D mapping including a plurality of landmark locations; and correlating the mapped eloquent cortical regions with said composite image to reduce a risk of causing injury to the mapped eloquent cortical regions during a surgical remediation of epileptic seizures. |
