The static seal assembly includes two seal rings (8,9) which are located in the same groove (9') axially side by side. One seal ring (9) is provided with an axial 'V'-groove (10). The second seal ring (8) has axially tapered flanks (11) which are located in the 'V'-groove of the other ring (9). When assembled, an annular groove (12) enclosed by the two rings is formed.
