The invention relates to a composition for inhibiting or preventing the development of suckers in tobacco plants comprising as the active substance a carbamate of the formula <CHEM> wherein X is a chlorine or bromine atom, and R is an ethyl or n-propyl group. The compositions may be used in a dosage from 50 to 5,000 g of active substance per hectare.
