PURPOSE:To perform opening and shutting without mis-operation even in the case of electrical trouble, by operating a cylinder driving source switching valve for opening and shutting a damper by air press signal, in the titled method. CONSTITUTION:A damper 30 actuated by a cyliner 10 is disposed above the opening 3 of a coke oven 1. When the opening is opened, said damper is opened to suck and collect dust gas leaking from the opening 3 through a hood 6 into a duct 8. In said apparatus, after a coke guide car 2 is located at a predetermined position, an exhaust gas suction opening 7 is opened, a lever 17 of a hydraulic cylinder 16 is pushed out, and a pilot valve 13 is operated by an actuation lever 15. A cylinder 10 is actuated by the air press. signal of the valve 13, to revolve the damper 30 round a rotary shaft 9 through a rod 11 and link 12 and open it.
