PURPOSE:To improve a field-through characteristic without losing the shield operation of a holder by forming the holder as a ring shape opened electromagnetically. CONSTITUTION:A slit 13 is formed over the entire width of the holder 12, which consists of a holder main body 14 made of brass formed with a ring shape opened electromagnetically and a synthetic resin made reinforcement plate 15 bonded to bridge over the slit 13. A write head 4(5) generates a magnetic flux phi shown in broken lines. A part of the magnetic flux phi acts like the holder main body 14, an eddy current is generated at a part of the holder main body 14, and since the holder main body 14 is a ring shape opened electromagnetically, the flow of the loop-shaped eddy current is disturbed by the slit 13 and no eddy current flows. Thus, only a part of the magnetic flux phi generated by the write head 4(5) is acted onto the coil of a read head 6(7) so as to show an excellent field-through characteristic.
