摘要 PURPOSE: To increase power and torque and decrease vibration by offsetting a cylinder axis from a rotational axis of a crankshaft in the direction of rotation. CONSTITUTION: A central line 26 of a cylinder wall 22 and a piston 21 of an altered piston timing(APT) engine 20 are offset from an axis 17 of a crankshaft. The offset is in the direction of rotation. The offset distance of the central line 26 of the cylinder is indicated by d, while the angular offset is indicated byθ. In the case of the engine 20, during power and intake strokes, a relatively small angle is involved between a connecting rod 24 and the cylinder axis 26. After ignition, the speed is faster than normal piston speed. During the ignition and expansion cycle, as a whole, a slow piston speed is involved. The ignition and expansion cycle is longer than the exhaust and compression cycle. These factors result in a unique composition of improved characteristic properties. The engine 20 is provided with movement with extremely low vibration and no knocking.
