<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image having excellent atmosphere by taking not only a main object but also the color tone of an entire image plane into consideration. <P>SOLUTION: A CPU 1 detects the distribution of brightness in an image plane and discriminates the change point of a bright part and a dark part by referring to the distribution of detected brightness.
