A pair of panties is formed by cuttin goff a length of elastic knitted fabric having elasticated edges and stitching the cut edges together to form a tube. The tube is then flattened and a U-shaped line of stitching is formed extending inwardly from the centre of one of the elasticated edges, and the U-shaped piece of material laying within the line of U-shaped stitching is cut away to form a pair of legs. The panties are comfortable to wear and the legs extend down the tighs so that their outline is not visible under outer clothing.
