Provided in an embodiment of the present invention are a channel borrowing method and access point (AP), the AP comprising: an acquisition unit used to acquire the service quality factor of an AP set and evaluate the service quality factor and equity factor of the AP set after a first AP borrows a first channel, the AP set comprising the first AP and a neighbor AP of the first AP, and the first channel being the channel occupied by the neighbor AP of the first AP; a transmission unit is used to transmit a channel borrowing request message to the neighbor AP occupying the first channel if a determination unit determines that the service quality factor and equity factor of the AP set satisfy a preset condition after the first AP borrows the first channel, the channel borrowing request message including the identifier of the first channel; a receiving unit is used to receive a channel borrowing acknowledgement message transmitted by the neighbor AP occupying the first channel; and a processing unit is used to borrow the first channel. The present invention realizes channel borrowing in a WLAN, and maintains or improves network throughput.
