7-Amino-2-quinolone derivs. of formula (I): (where R1 is H or 1-5C alkyl; A is 2-5 C alkylene; R2 is H or 1-5 C alkyl; R3 is 1-5 C alkyl which may be linked with an alkyl group R2 directly or through O, S, NH or NR8 to form a 5- to 7-membered heterocyclic ring, R8 being 1-5 C alkyl; R4 and R5 are H, 1-5 C alkoxy or halogen; R6 is H or 1-5 C alkyl; R7 is H, 1-5 C alkyl, or a group -CO-R9 in which R9 is 1-5 C alkoxy, aryloxy, or a group -NR1oR11; R1o is H, 1-5 C alkyl, 2-5 C hydroxyalkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; and R11 is H, 1-5 C alkyl or 2-5 C hydroxyalkyl, an alkyl group R11 opt. being linked with an alkyl group R1o directly or through O, S, NH or NR12 (R12 = 1-5 C alkyl, 2-5 C hydroxyalkyl or aryl) to form a 5- to 7-membered heterocyclic ring), e.g. 7-amino-3-(2-diethylaminoethyl)-4-methyl-2-quinolone, and their physiologically tolerable salts with acids, are new cpds. (I) have coronary dilating and central sedative activity. Specific pharmacological activities are as follows: (1) The cpds. being about dilation of coronary vessels and a strong increase in the oxygen content of blood in the coronary sinus, accompanied by only slight effects on heart rate and arterial blood pressure. (2) The cpds. are peripheral vasodilators, and increase peripheral blood flow. (3) The cpds. have central effects, esp. analgesic, sedative and anticonvulsant effects. (4) The cpds. have anti-inflammatory activity.
