The block of, for example seven female electrical contacts is assembled using sub blocks of one, two and four contact housings. Each housing has a lower (1,4,6) and upper (2,5,7) half injection moulded and divided by partition walls into one, two and four square cross-section chambers each receiving a female electrical contact. Each partition wall is formed by an upstanding wall on the lower housing half which forms a tongue and groove joint with a depending wall on the upper housing half. The halves interlock at the end of each chamber with a mortise joint. To ensure a unitary structure the lower halves (1,4) of the one and two chamber sub blocks mate with the four chamber block upper half (7) which overlaps onto the four chamber block lower half.
