NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic 76-11. Appearance: colorless crystal; elementary analyses in %: C 62.61, H 8.27, N 0 (as free acid), C 60.57, H 8.04, N 0 (as sodium salt); molecular weight: 843 (according to titrated equivalency) or 873 (according to FE mass spectroscopy); melting point: 108-112 deg.C (free acid), 210- 212 deg.C decomped, (sodium salt); specific rotatory power[alpha]D<25>=+36.6 deg. (C= 0.382 in chloroform); solubility: easily soluble in benzene, chloroform or acetone, hard soluble in water or hexane. USE:Anticoccidiotic: it shows effect ageinst gram-positive and acid-fast bacteria. PREPARATION:A bacterium in Nocardia, producing antibiotic 76-11 such as Nocardia sp. 76-11 strain (FERM-5678) is cultured in a liquid or solid medium by a usual method and the filtrate of the culture mixture is extracted with an organic solvent. Then, the extract is subjected to thin-layer chromatography to effect purification, thus giving the antibiotic 76-11. |
