In the program management method for microprocessors according to the present invention, a general-purpose routine control table is prepared based on the general-purpose routine address table in the preprocessing step in the main program peculiar to the product. The general-purpose routine control table stores the storage addresses of the general-purpose routines to be used with the return address for return to the main program in the order of the routines to be used. When the main program uses a general-purpose routine, it reads out the storage address of the general-purpose routine to be used by referring to the general-purpose routine control table and invokes the general-purpose routine corresponding to the storage address from the general-purpose routine storing unit. Then, the invoked general-purpose routines are executed. After execution of the general-purpose routines, the control is passed to the return address stored in the general-purpose routine control table.
