<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger detecting system and method that can accurately judge the sitting state of passengers and sitting state of a child on a child seat and distinguish between adults and children and can be constituted at a relatively low cost. SOLUTION: This system is provided with seats, a plurality of electrodes E1 to E4, which are spacedly arranged on the surface side of each seat, an oscillation circuit 10 for generating feeble electric fields between specific electrodes and other ones, current/voltage converting circuit 13, which detects the displacement current flowing based on the feeble electric fields generated between the specific electrodes and other ones and convert them into voltage, a control circuit 17, which detects the sitting states of passengers based on the output signals from the current/voltage converting circuit 13, and air bag devices 18, which have a function to develop air bags based on collision. The data based on the detection result of the control circuit 17 are sent to the air bag devices, and the air bag of each air bag device is set to either a condition under which the air bag can be developed or a condition under which the air bag cannot be developed.</p> |
