PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator in which magnetic flux generated from a permanent magnet can be used effectively for moving a mover and the mover can generate a thrust sufficiently and stably. SOLUTION: The linear actuator comprises a stator 12, a mover 13 having iron pieces 32 provided reciprocally with respect to the stator 12, permanent magnets 14 provided oppositely to the iron pieces 32 in the stator 12 while arranging the magnetic poles along the reciprocating direction, a pair of magnetic pole members 22 and 23 provided on the opposite sides of the permanent magnet 14 in the reciprocating direction, and a coil 15 provided in the stator 12 wherein the iron piece 32 has tapered faces 51 and 52 inclining against the reciprocating direction on the side facing the magnetic pole members 22 and 23.
