PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having more enhanced safety, excellent output characteristics, and an excellent capacity retention rate during preservation at high temperatures, and nonaqueous electrolyte used for the same.SOLUTION: This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a collector, a positive electrode containing as a positive electrode active material a lithium containing phosphate compound expressed by LixMPO(M is at least one kind of element selected from a group comprising metals of the group 2-group 12 in the periodic table, and 0<x≤1.2), a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material capable of occluding and discharging lithium ions, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, and the nonaqueous electrolyte includes at least one of compounds expressed by the following general formula (1) and the following general formula (2).
