In a harvester 1 with a harvesting assembly for harvesting of sugar beets 2 from the ground, a main cleaning mechanism 3 for rough cleaning of dirt from the sugar beets, an unloading elevator 4 for unloading the sugar beets, between the main cleaning mechanism 3 and the unloading elevator 4 there is an auxiliary cleaning mechanism 5 for fine cleaning of dirt from the sugar beets 2. The auxiliary cleaning mechanism has essentially a C-shape, viewed from the side, and contains several rotationally driven cleaning rolls 7, which are placed in two curved rows. Upon rotation of the cleaning rolls 7 the sugar beets 2 are made to climb up through the auxiliary cleaning mechanism 5, whereupon they experience a change in direction of transport of approximately half a rotation. The climbing in conjunction with the change of direction means that the sugar beets 2 are exposed to such a large centrifugal force that practically all remaining dirt is loosened and cast away by the auxiliary cleaning mechanism 5. <IMAGE> |
