Colour identification system for optical fibre

The colour identification system uses annular markings (7) in the form of a UV hardened lacquer, applied to the outside of the optical fibre (3) at axially spaced points and hardened via a UV lamp (11). The optical fibre is coated with a different colour UV hardened lacquer between the annular markings, to provide a flush outer surface, before hardening via a second UV lamp (15). Each of the UV lamps may be supplied with a rinsing gas containing oxygen.
