A syringe pump (10) comprising a device for detecting a syringe for use in a syringe pump, the syringe comprising a plunger, a barrel defined by a cylindrical wall and a flange projecting from the barrel, the device comprising: a syringe pump wall (157) against which the syringe can be placed; a first projection (154) projecting outward from the plane of the syringe pump wall (157) a distance from the syringe pump wall approximately equal to the thickness of the cylindrical wall; and, a detector (160) for detecting the presence of the syringe, the detector mounted to the syringe pump wall (157) a distance from the projection (154) such that the syringe barrel cannot activate the detector (160) when the barrel is placed against the projection (154). <IMAGE> |
