Process for removing hydrogen cyanide from gases

A process for removing hydrogen cyanide from gases containing H2S and other acidic components, such as CO2 and COS, comprises: (i) physically scrubbing the gas to remove H2S and the other acidic components using a scrubbing agent, which is regenerated and reused in the process; (ii) simultaneously scrubbing out hydrogen cyanide with H2S and the acidic components; and (iii) adding SO2, and optionally required NH3 and/or alkali, to the scrubbing agent, and removing the rhodanides formed from the scrubbing agent. Also claimed is an apparatus used for carrying out the above process.
