摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly form a phosphor layer in the side surface part or bottom part of a bulkhead by applying a phosphor paste between bulkheads, in the formation of the phosphor layer between bulkheads provided in strip on a base plate, and drying the phosphor paste with infrared rays. SOLUTION: In the formation of a phosphor layer, a phosphor paste consisting of a phosphor powder, ethyl cellulose and a high boiling point solvent is applied to a groove-like discharge space between bulkheads as a first step. As the high boiling point solvent, BCA(butyl carbitol acetate) is used. While a back plate 20 is carried by a conveyor with the surface having the phosphor paste applied thereto upward, infrared rays 58 the back plate 20 are irradiated directly to the phosphor paste by use of an infrared heater 51 for heating it. The. The infrared rays 58 are reflected by a reflecting plate 51 to improve the heating efficiency. The emission of infrared rays is preferably executed from the obliquely upper part in the direction crossing the bulkheads.
