DEHYDRATING GRANULAR MATERIAL

In a separating and clarifying method and apparatus liquid is drained from loose granular material such as granulated blast furnace slag which is formed by the injection of water into liquid slag, and then clarified in a settling or filtering device. Liquid is drained from the granular material in a plurality of perforated bowls (106) which are positioned on a scoop wheel (101). The drained granular material is transferred to a conveyor (108) and conveyed out of the apparatus, whilst the liquid, i.e. water in the case of granulated slag, is collected in a trough (104) and is clarified in a clarifying device (102) so that it may be used again.
