New water-soluble Lys and Arg salts of N-(2-pyridyl)-2 -methyl-4- hydroxy-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide (I) were prepd. Thus, equimolar amts. of the corresp. amino acid and (I) were added to a polar protic solvent, esp. water or a lower akanol, heated at 20-100≰C for 0.5-30min., and isolated by solvent evapn. and trituration of the residue with ethylacetate/chlordoform solvent system. The compds. are useful for treating inflammatory states, e.q.rheumatoid arthritis, esp. by parenteral admin.
