The invention relates to a knife, especially for cutting devices used in agriculture. When the cutting edges are worn, according to the current state of the art a) the cutting edges are resharpened or b) the knife blades are replaced by new ones or c) the knife blades are provided peripherally with a plurality of cutting edges which come into use as previous cutting edges are worn out using the indexable insert principle. The object of the invention is to design a corresponding knife in such a way that serviceable lives are increased without grinding or regrinding the cutting edges. This object is achieved according to the invention in that, by means of a constant knife blade thickness, which at the same time corresponds to the cutting edge thickness, the cutting edge thickness remains the same even when worn. The drawing shows the structure of the knife blade (1) and the way in which it is fastened by means of connecting elements (2) and supporting elements (3) to the basic body (4) of the knife. The basic body of the knife can be made of a relatively cost- effective flat material, as it is subjected to a smaller specific load than the knife blades. The serviceable life is derived from the amount by which the cutting edges project in relation to the front edges of the basic body of the knife. <IMAGE>
