The metallated copolymer is obtained by reaction of the olefin copolymer with metalorganic compounds of lithium, operating in suspension in an inert solvent. The lithiation stage and the subsequent polymer modification reaction take place in inert hydrocarbon suspension at a temperature below that of the swelling of the starting copolymer.
