End-face milling of work piece made of wood, plastic or metal

Two milling tools (1,3), one on each side of a work piece (5) are alternately moved into visible work piece faces, but are stopped before reaching the opposite side and retracted to their initial positions. An Independent claim is also included for milling equipment, which includes a left handed (1) and right handed milling tool (3) on opposite sides of a work piece (5). Each tool is set so that it only mills a specific distance into the material, leaving a rib remaining on each visible face. Preferred Features: Both milling tools perform an oscillating movement into the visible faces (8,9) and each completes at least one cutting cycle. The cutting action from both sides is identical and at the end of each pair of cycles the work piece is moved further into the cutting tool plane to increase the cutting depth. In the final two cycles the tool cutting edges are tangential to the base of the cut and produces a straight line completing cutting operation.
