PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate transmission of a picture of an original and copying with a simple operation by making it possible to set at least number of copies when operating a 2nd operation means after operation of a 1st operation means. SOLUTION: When a user operates a start key (2nd operation means) 8B after entry of a destination telephone number, a master control section 1 discriminates whether or not setting of a FAX/copy function is valid. The user operates a FAX/copy key (1st operation means) to set the FAX/copy function. When the result of discrimination indicates that the setting of the FAX/copy function is valid, the main control section 1 sets number of copies as an initial value. When the discrimination denotes invalid setting, the main control section 1 executes only facsimile transmission and allows a read section 9 to read an original, and the communication terminal faxes the picture of the original. After number of copies is set to the initial value, the main control section 1 awaits entry of the number of copies, and executes the FAX/copy function when sensing the key operation of the start key 8B.
