PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data reproducing device for only allowing a user to input the music genre of his or her desired music from an operating part in order to continuously reproduce his or her desired music and its recording medium. SOLUTION: This data reproducing device is provided with a data recording and reproducing means for recording data recorded in a data recording area and table of contents information data related with the data in a recoding area different from the data recording area, and for reproducing the recorded data and table of contents information data, a storage means for storing the reproduced table of contents information data, an operating means for inputting character information, a display part, and a control part. The character information divided by special symbols is read from the table of contents information data, and the list of the tracks of the same character information is prepared, and stored in the storage part, and when the list of the same character information as the character information inputted by the operating means is present, the list is displayed at the display part, and the data of the pertinent tracks are selected from the data recording area, and successively reproduced under the control of the control part.
