摘要 In a tread 12 of or for a pneumatic tire with circumferentially extending ribs 14, 16, 18, 20, at least one and preferably all ribs include a high density siping zone 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, each siping zone having inside and outside edges e.g. 40, 52, spaced by from about 1.4% to about 4.5% of the overall tread width and/or between 3mm and 9mm. One edge, e.g. 52, of each siping zone is spaced from the the overall tread width and/or by 0.5mm to 4mm. About 50% nearest rib edge e.g. 64 by from about 0.2% to about 1.9% of to about 80% of the surface area 80 in each siping zone is ground contacting, the remaining area being siping 82 and no more than 50% of the siping is arranged in the circumferential direction. At least 75% of all sipes within the siping zone are arranged so that their end portions are laterally aligned with or overlap in the circumferential direction an end portion of another sipe within the siping zone. The high density siping zones reduce rib edge erosion wear by creating a weakened zone without the tendency for tearing. <IMAGE>
