The power transmission unit has an input member (1) and an output member (6), and a hydraulic clutch. On reaching a differential speed between the input and output members, a hydrostatic displacement machine (20) generates a pressure causing a drop in differential speed. The displacement machine consists of a part (21,22) connected to the input and output member. One of the members forms a housing (4) containing the displacement machine which sucks up fluid from a suction chamber (14). The suction chamber is formed by a fluid-tight casing (10) enclosing and fixed to the housing. The interior of the housing is entirely filled with operating fluid. The suction chamber is connected to a chamber (34) partly defined by an elastic wall (35) consisting of a membrane.
