The device contains means (4) to multiply the pulse band B of the linearly frequency-modulated pulses which have been obtained by using a dispersive line (3) by a value M at the transmitting end, and means (8) to carry out a superposition between the received echo signal and a reference pulse which is linearly frequency modulated and has the same band width MB as the transmitting pulse at the receiving end. In this manner, each target is assigned a special frequency which results from this superposition and permits discrimination from other targets. The range resolution can thus be enhanced in spite of the limited performance of available components (dispersive lines).
