PURPOSE:To obtain an alloy tool steel having low anisotropy, superior formability, strength at high temp., toughness, fatigue resistance, heat check resistance and a long cutting life by limiting a composition consisting of C, P, S, Si, Mn, Cr, Mo, W, V and Fe. CONSTITUTION:This alloy tool steel consists of, by weight, 0.20-0.35% C, <=0.020%, preferably <=0.010% P, <=0.0030%, preferably <=0.0010% S, <=2.0% Si, 0.1-2.0% Mn, 2.0-15.0% Cr, one or more among 0.10-6.0% Mo, 0.10-6.0% W and 0.01-2.5% V, and the balance Fe with impurities. The steel has low anisotropy in impact value after proper hot working and also has satisfactory formability and superior various characteristics such as strength at high temp. When a high-speed tool, a hot working tool, an edged tool or the like is made of the alloy tool steel, a desirable composition can be selected within said composition range.
