The method according to the invention makes it possible to detect non-destructively cavities in bridge coverings, so-called blisters or caverns. It is suitable in particular for locating in the covering cavities such as can occur when laying mastic asphalt, which in the case of securely bonded seals increase in size under the effects of traffic and temperature and then lead to rupture of the covering. Following a heat treatment, it can be additionally detected whether these blisters or caverns are dry or filled with water.
