The honing strip is fixed to a support, whose radially inner wedge surface bears on a reverse surface on an adjuster. The honing tool is so designed as to give axial clearance between the support (11) and adjuster (25). Pref. the support is fitted axially between two strike faces (31,32) spaced by more than the axial extent of the support, on a face (31) of a contact element, which can adjust axially on the tool thread (29) and be locked by locknut (30) as required. ADVANTAGE - Different engagement fuses for the tool forward and return strokes.
