A direction-determination logic is used in compact-disc players to establish in which direction the scanner is travelling across the tracks of the disc after either an intentional jump or an unintentional one caused by a knock, for instance. In order to determine in which direction the scanning light beam is travelling across the disc tracks, the phase difference between a track error signal (TE) and the envelope of the HF signal (HF) which generates the scanning light beam is only evaluated if the speed with which the light beam travels across the tracks is below a given value. The logic of the invention for the determination of the direction of motion of the scanner can be used in compact-disc players, video-disc players, DRAW-disc players and magneto-optical instruments. |
