A first conductive member is bonded to the first pad electrode and a second conductive member is bonded to the second pad electrode so that a portion of each of the first and second conductive members protrudes from a plane including a first outer surface. The light emitting element and the first and second conductive members are covered with a light-shielding member so as to expose at least a portion of the main light emitting surface. The first and second conductive members and the light-shielding member which protrude from the plane are cut off along a direction intersecting the main light emitting surface.

A method of manufacturing a light emitting device, the method comprising: providing a light emitting element comprising a first outer surface, a second outer surface, and a main light emitting surface from which light is emitted, the first outer surface being connected to the second outer surface and the main light emitting surface, the light emitting element having a first pad electrode and a second pad electrode, the first pad electrode and the second pad electrode being provided on the second outer surface; bonding a first conductive member to the first pad electrode, and a second conductive member to the second pad electrode, respectively so that a portion of each of the first conductive member and the second conductive member protrudes from a plane including the first outer surface; covering the light emitting element, the first conductive member, and the second conductive member with a light-shielding member so as to expose at least a portion of the main light emitting surface; and cutting off the first conductive member, the second conductive member, and the light-shielding member which protrude from the plane along a direction intersecting the main light emitting surface to provide a surface on which the first conductive member and the second conductive member are exposed.
