[Class 9 (i)] A blasting-charge comprises a cartridge of water mixed with a powder, or filings, or chips of iron or other metal, and a heat-producing primer to produce the instantaneous vaporization of the water. The mixed water and metallic powder &c., may be mixed with an absorbent such as sawdust, cork powder, infusorial earth, or mineral wool or sponge, and may be wrapped in a sheet of zinc or aluminium, or enclosed in a non-leaking metallic tube. The primer may comprise liquid oxygen and metallic powders, with or without hydrocarbons. Several charges may be used in the same bore-hole. |
